Today is Fred Smith’s birthday. Before he built FedEx and became a billionaire, Smith was a Marine Corps Captain winding through the jungles of Vietnam. He saw the effectiveness of wartime logistics back then, and he decided that he would build something just like it after his service. Smith left the war with a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and two Purple Hearts and in 1971, he founded FedEx. There is no limit to how far you can go when you get back in the civilian world.
