Altar of Repose: I’m gonna lay down..., is a solo exhibition of works by Sheldon Scott, which opens today at ConnerSmith Gallery in Washington DC and will be on view through August 31. Scott’s practice intersects race, sexuality, and economics to impugn mythologies of Black supernaturality. Constructing hammocks as physical representations of leisure, the work posits questions on how rest becomes resistance in a society that commodifies intellectual and physical labor. Scott will debut a durational performance today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with an artist talk with me taking place tomorrow on Sunday, June 19 at 5 p.m. Press Release
