I’ve been reflecting a lot today. I’m still getting used to hearing “Happy Father’s Day”. It’s not like hearing a birthday wish. You hear those all of your life; I’ve had 37 of those. You don’t hear Father’s Day wishes until you become one. And it’s been a journey no one could’ve prepared me for, and yet here I am. I’m proud of me. I’m a great Dad. Honestly it’s all I’ve ever wanted to be in life. It’s been a desire and goal since I was a kid. I had so many questions before Baby M was born about my adequacy (or perceived inadequacies) in fatherhood, but then he showed up. He showed me that I was more than adequate. He’s affirmed for me that simply who I am is more than enough for him to love me. I thank you, my son, for choosing me for this journey. Thank you for coming back to us. Thank you for constantly teaching me. And thank you and @mspackyetti for making me a Dad. And Dad, thank you. Thank you for being right here in this journey. I’ll never forget how you rushed up to the hospital, because you knew I needed your strength, even if it was just for 5 minutes and we had to sneak you in. Thank you for being a wonderful father to my brother. We both look up to you. We both love you so much. There are now 4 generations of Cunningham walking this earth. Watch out world. 1st photo by @mspackyetti. She’s getting good at this y’all, but then she’s great at everything.
