March 24 1995 Lupos Heartbreak Hotel Providence, RI I was 16 years old and in a band called Corrin. The song is called “Pariah” it’s a song about wallowing in depression. I was all about dark poetry and imagery. Also note the massive shorts and pants full on 1990s skater/hardcore/raver looks 😁 I was the youngest guy in that band and still figuring out who I was on stage. I was shy and awkward off and apparently on stage too.. It’s funny to watch but I’m also kind of pleasantly surprised at 16 I was doing this. Hell at least I was trying to figure out my drive and creativity albeit a chaotic route to get there. Corrin were very much the “odd” band of our scene blending dark lyrics and a metallic hardcore sound with almost dark gothic atmospheric undertones. Hardcore kids thought we were to “evil” or “vampires” and metal heads said we were “a weak excuse for death metal.” Truth is we were neither, we were carving our own path that I’m unsure we even knew what that could be called. METAL and hardCORE hmmm We ended up breaking up shortly after and I moved on to many other bands. As is the story for many musicians during that time... I give a ton of credit to the bands I was watching and emulating. I would go to about 3 shows a week on average during the school week and in the summer as much as possible regardless of genre. I was obsessed! I was also fortunate to have creative and encouraging people who were my band and friends around that era. It was a unique and exciting time for music and for me. Music was and still is my life, I’m still pleasantly surprised I still get to do this! Although I’ve come a long way since those days I’m still very much an eager fan of anything that is raw, real, creative and unique. I owe my career to the bands, artists, emcees, DJs and visionaries that fueled my fire back then! I do have the DAT masters for this band but I’m unsure what to do to have them converted to digital, perhaps someday. I’m grateful to @xshedx for capturing and preserving this moment in time on YouTube, so I can look back chuckle and have perspective. Back in the day! Never forget your roots and take nothing for granted!
