AUTUMN CROWNS 🍂
Here’s a little look at something that is slowly taking shape. If you’ve followed me for a while you’ll know I have a long standing obsession with autumn, blackberries and wisteria (although that’s for next year) and every now and again I feel the overwhelming urge to try to make blackberries. This time I thought I would make life more diffiuclt for myself and make my own leaves too so here’s a little look at the leaves coming together and the very start of the blackberry making.
The leaves are cut out of offcuts of sheet brass with a piercing saw, I file them into shape (that bit takes hours), then I drill holes in them with my Grandfather’s old hand drill, I hammer them into shape over some very old jeweller’s stakes, then I sand them with ceramic blocks and finally smooth off the edges of the leaves with an abrasive block (more about those to come as they’re brilliant). That takes a whole day to do. Next step is to make the headband using brass wire, soldered and shaped on an old neckpiece mandrel before wire wrapping each leaf to the headband. So far, I’ve made one blackberry! I’m using old obsolete Swarovski pearls for these in various shades of deep red, black and dark mulberry. I’m going to add some tiny faceted garnets for a bit of subtle sparkle. There’s a lot more to do on this but I thought I’d show you what I’ve done so far. If all goes to plan, this may be the start of some new collection ideas. We’ll see.......
