BEST SUNSCREEN CHOICES •

The answer to the question of what is the best and safest sunscreen:
In general, research points to sunscreens with mineral based active ingredients, such as zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide as safe. *There is some chatter about titanium dioxide being less safe than zinc oxide, but that’s still not conclusive.

No one debates a physical barrier. And of course there are those folks who are so pro-sun that they don’t like any barrier.
The reality is that sun exposure ages the skin.
However, it’s also clear that we need some sun exposure both for setting our circadian rhythm and for vitamin D, production and overall health. Low solar angle sun, meaning when it’s lower in the sky is best for setting circadian rhythm, especially in the morning and that’s also when UV intensity is lowest.

I discuss all of this and more on the Huberman Lab podcast, devoted to skin health and appearance.
