Todays #MindsetMonday comes from @alongcamebobby ✨ I would like to share a small snippet of my little 5 year olds big life. I was told in pregnancy that my son wasn't compatible with life but one doctor gave us a glimmer of hope so we held onto that. We spent 16 months solid in hospital since birth. From cardiac surgery at 2 weeks old, numerous other operations, to almost losing him twice in them months (He went into cardiac arrest for 8 minutes a few days after the surgery. Was an absolute miracle he got through that), we made it home! We are still always in and out of hospital and he is currently in stage 3B chronic kidney disease. But what I would like to share is Bobby's DDH journey (Developmental dysplasia of the hip). Bobby was born with this hip problem but it wasn't picked up on until he was 8 months old. He had an x-ray on his abdomen to check his bowel, his hip was only just in view and the radiographer noticed it! But he couldn't have surgery right away because he needed other procedures that took priority. Fast forward to 2 years old, he had the surgery and was in a hip spica cast for 12 weeks (extremely hard time for the both of us, especially poor Bobby). Recovery was slow and Bobby had to build up all his strength from scratch. In the first lockdown in 2020 he took his first steps (roughly 1 year after surgery) and he's been unstoppable since! He still proves us wrong with so many things. I'm so so proud of him. He is honestly the most amazing little boy and just deals with everything that’s thrown his way. He is now suffering with his kidney function. He was only born with one kidney and it functioned at around 25% at birth up until he got to around 3 years old. Now we’re down to 11% function. He is a complex case as he has a lot of other issues. There are many risks and complications of having a kidney transplant. I am a kidney match for Bobby so the goal is to be able to give him my kidney and allow him to live his precious life some time longer. Despite everything and no week goes my without a hospital appointment, he is always smiling, learning, smashing his own milestones and just living life!
