Today is Edna Lewis’s birthday and to celebrate, restaurants, cooks and storytellers across the country are featuring a special dish on their menus. @thedinerbar_austin we’re doing Clams and Dumplings. I love how she respected the seasonality of southern ingredients. 2021 marked another year of growth for the Edna Lewis Foundation. We have continued to expand the legacy of our namesake by creating opportunities for African Americans in the fields of cooking, agriculture, food studies and storytelling. The cornerstone of our work continues to be our Scholarship program, which for three consecutive years awarded scholarships to help them continue their studies and realize their unique visions for communities strengthened by healthy foodways systems.
