For generations, tea has been a very exploitative industry. Today, big brands engage in price wars in the supermarkets hoping to win your loyalty with the lowest prices. Sales of industrial black tea are falling year on year. To avoid losing profit, they put the burden on the farmers - paying less and less for tea. Quality drops and farming communities are forced into ever deeper poverty. Many live in what we would consider unacceptable poverty, where life expectancy can be as low as the 40s. 90% of the tea in Europe and North America is supplied by seven huge companies who control not just supply, but the conversations on tea through vast advertising budgets. This is the status quo, but it doesn’t have to be that way... #tea #teachange #teafarming #teaindustry
