I’m having a hard time reading. I HATE that I’m having a hard time. There’s so much I want to read! Those of you who’ve followed me for a while, or who read the Behind the Book in EVERY SUMMER AFTER, know that I turned away from fiction for a long time. It wasn’t until I discovered authors like @jennyhan and @colleenhoover and @christinalauren in 2019 that I started to love reading again. I stopped watching Netflix — all I did was read! But now, a few years later, I’m in a rut. It’s not the books! It took me three weeks to finish the last book I read, and I absolutely loved it. It’s me. Partly I’m distracted. And, partly, reading feels a bit like work again — I was an editor for 16 years, so reading was literally my job. All of which is to say, @amyleabook’s SET ON YOU was such a fun, easy, delightful read that I breezed through back in the spring in the week leading up to the publication of ESA. I know I’m late to the party in talking about this book (if I had a pop-culture column, it’d be called ICYMI because I’m perpetually late to the game). So, ICYMI: Check out Amy’s debut novel, a gym nemesis to lovers romcom about a curvy fitness influencer and a firefighter. SET ON YOU came out the same day as ESA, and Amy is a fellow Canadian, so in some ways, I feel like this book is ESA’s publishing sibling. It’s such a sweet and steamy romance, but my favourite part was watching our girl Crystal navigate her own relationship to her body, body positivity, and her fanbase. It’s the first in a series of romcoms Amy is writing about influencers. Her next, EXES & O’s, about a book lover, comes out in January.
