• Survival tactics • One of the most powerful parts of the protests is the mindset and tactics adopted by the group to stay safe. People biking around to block roads and instruct parts of the group to speed up or slow down to close the gap, white allies on the frontlines forming chains to protect POC, laying or kneeling down peacefully to hold space and make a statement. Civil disobedience in its most powerful form. In this moment, by distracting part of the group by targeting someone (usually a POC with a bike) the cops are able to split the group, and within moments surround us. One moment we were strong amongst thousands and the next we were a group of about 200 completely cornered. As they began making arrests along the perimeter of the group, by staying together and holding onto one another some of us were able to push our way to the side and to safety.
