Fun facts about this weekend’s show: 🎹 The Nashville Symphony last performed Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 in 2015 and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 in 2016. 🎹 Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 premiered at the composer’s December 22, 1808 concert, a notorious four-hour performance that took place in an unheated concert hall during a frigid cold snap. 🎹 Guest pianist Stewart Goodyear is a Beethoven aficionado, going so far as to master and perform all 32 of the composer’s sonatas – sometimes in a single day. 🎹 Sibelius was fascinated by Finnish folklore, and a majority of his music – particularly Symphony No. 2 – is full of references to these historic tales.
