The people of the Suri tribe in Ethiopia, are extremely unique. Starting from a young age, many of the girls start stretching out their lips or ears, to eventually be able to fit in a clay plate. One of the largest theories behind this was to make themselves appear unattractive, to prevent them from being kidnapped. Nowadays, it’s a sign of beauty; and the bigger the lip plate, the more beautiful she’s considered, and the more a man has to pay for her hand in marriage.
