Day 4 Challenge: The Magazine Cover Challenge
We've been tasked by the @missglobalofficial Org to post a mock up of a magazine cover we'd like to be featured on and explain why.
For my dream cover, I would like to be featured on the cover of the hallowed Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Forever regarded as the "supermodel maker", the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is in a class of its own - for the talent that has graced its pages AND for the values the magazine stands for.
A pioneer in the representation of women of diverse occupations, body types, ethnicities, and identities... SI has been one of the first high profile magazines to feature transgendered models, plus sized models, and middle aged models - along with models of varying body types and ethnic backgrounds without the agenda to treat them as a novelty. Models of diverse identities ARE standard models to the publication and are depicted in their true forms as ideals of beauty and femininity. Just as it should be!
Beyond this representation, the publication promotes the notion that women are not objects to be looked at but instead are SUBJECTS to be respected and revered.... and that a woman's beauty is best appreciated when her mind, her contributions, and her truth is respected. SI has helped turn the tide on women being merely pretty to look at in photos..... and quiet and obedient everywhere else. Sports Illustrated Swim Issue models are bold entrepreneurs, advocates and activists, mothers and legacy builders...and yes, SUPERMODELS.
To me, Sports Illustrated's Swim Issue is the perfect publication to tell my story as a multi-hyphenate... Model, businesswoman, and ocean advocate... who, like the ocean, dreams of connecting the world and waking it up to the power of the divine feminine in all her glory and all of her forms! Beauty and power aren’t mutually exclusive! The ocean and women both show us that!
