We’ve been working with Dr. Bari Hartley for almost a year now. Ever initially was mostly nervous and curious. Adjustments for him were hit and miss. We just let him take his time. Recently, after a doctors visit where he got a “poke” to check his iron levels, he became terrified as we walked into her office. We had done our usual prepping about going to see Dr. Bari and how she was going to touch his neck and back and give him “massagies” and he was excited to go! But then we walked into the room and his body told him that he could be in danger. At the regular doctors office he does not have bodily autonomy. He can’t leave when he feels uncomfortable. He has experienced pain and he has to stay through examinations. This is so scary for sensitive little ones! And the body keeps the score. Then Dr. Bari did something really special. She got down on his level and she explained to him that she would never hurt him and she would never touch him if he didn’t want her to. He understood every word. He started smiling again and he even went to her table for the first time to try it out! He still didn’t let her adjust him that visit but that was ok, we had made good progress. Now he will talk about going to see her randomly throughout the day! He now feels comfortable and empowered. And he let’s her do a full adjustments.
