I was in a very different place when I started writing the songs that became Good Man. When I listen to this album I hear myself reckoning with something I didn’t even know of yet. Each song was like a dive into one specific element of my maleness. I was confronting my tendencies, which is challenging to do when you’re set in your ways. By the time I started making videos for the album, I had found my non-binary identity. But the album isn’t about my nonbinaryness, though - it is about my masculinity. And, as a result, it is about nonbinaryness, because for me the two are forever linked. I came out of the album process in a more expansive space, where I can take accountability for my own masculinity while embracing my breaking from it. It makes me want to cry because because after working through this project for so long, it is time for me to relinquish control over it and share, so it exists out there in the world, not held inside of me anymore.
