Hey there family and friends!! This is very last minute, but please read if you care about the fishing industry in San Francisco. SUBJECT: Don’t take the Fishermen out of Fisherman’s Wharf! A major commercial development proposed for pier 45 threatens the existence of the entire San Francisco fishing industry. The proposal for a private 2000 person event space on a publicly owned pier would eliminate the only industrial fishing space left in the entire San Francisco Bay. It poses a fundamental threat to the fishing industry that has sustained the northern waterfront since the 1800s, delivers millions of pounds of seafood to San Francisco each year, and continues to support hundreds of fishing families. If we are displaced from Pier 45 by tourist-oriented development, hundreds of small businesses and working class jobs will be forced to relocate far away from our families, our communities, and our customers. The Board of Supervisors budget committee is voting on the development on Pier 45 on December 4th at 10 am. There are 3 things you can do now to support the fishing fleet and save our livelihoods. 1) Email the Supervisors Today!
