Daniel Aston, Kelly Loving, and Derrick Rump are three of the people who were killed in the mass shooting at the club Q in Colorado Springs. To see their faces makes me cry. Makes us cry. Again. Why do we have to cry so often ? It’s devastating. It’s disgusting. I Wish I were angry but I don’t even have the strength to be angry right now. It will come later. It has to come later.
In the last couple of years, the LGBTQ community has been targeted by so much violence, so many of us have been murdered, and we have been so insulted, both from the right and the far-right rising all around the world, in Brazil, in England, in Italy, everywhere, but also by some so-called radical feminists ( terfs ) asserting that trans people don’t experience real oppression, or some so-called left-wing activists, asserting that gay people are now privileged ( the “white gays”, the “corporate gays”, etc ). One day, all these people will have to answer and apologize. A few days ago, I was reading Bernardine Evaristo. She writes that every life contains its own Manifesto. We could add : every death, too. Those deaths tell us what kind of societies we are living in. And what needs to change, urgently. Urgently.
