Environmental lawyer Robert Currie Ríos ’13 LL.M. led the drafting of Chile’s landmark climate change law, which sets a binding target for emissions reduction. His Columbia Law degree has helped him bring a multinational perspective to the process, he says.
Growing up rafting and hiking in Chile, he realized development needed to be undertaken only with environmental protection in mind.
“We have to protect the environment, but we also have to grow as a country. Becoming an attorney was an important and interesting way of contributing to environmental improvement and sustainable development and mixing these economic, social, and environmental aspects.”
