Mostly to my detriment I have not put a lot of effort into enjoying the journey over reaching my goal/destination. But this project has definitely encouraged me to pay attention to the road and see the value of the process and the victories along the way to our end goal. Last week I received a message from Clarck, one of the subjects of the docu-series who also has a rather pivotal supporting role in the feature film we recently wrapped in the Congo. She was asking if I could send her some money so she could continue her English classes. Normally I would not hesitate as it’s a relatively small amount of money and she is a terrific young lady who is always looking to improve herself and her life. But this time I thought, “Hey, didn’t you just get paid a large amount of money for your role in the film? Why aren’t you using that?” Well the response that immediately popped up on my WhatsApp put the biggest smile on my face. A series of photos of empty plots of land. Land that she bought with her money as an investment for her family. We still have a long post production schedule ahead of us on the feature... and months more to shoot on the series but wow... just wow. If the final results are half as rewarding as the process of telling their stories the world is going to see something very special....
