Day 2:
Started the day by hopping on the tube over to Westminster. The second I got out of the station, there was Big Ben! Wow it’s big!! It was a rainy day in London with showers off and on, definitely gave me Seattle vibes.
I walked a couple blocks marveling at the massive, intricate stone buildings and saw Westminster Abbey. I had already bought a ticket to see Buckingham Palace but I had time to kill, it was raining, and I had to see the inside of the church. It was pretty magnificent! The stained glass, detail everywhere, and so much history. My neck hurt from staring at the ceiling, there was so much to look at up there!
After that I headed over to Buckingham Palace for the first part of my 3 part tour. First up, the portrait gallery filled with photos of the royals from over the years. There were some really amazing shots to look at, and it was fun to see the evolution of styles of photography that have been used with the royal family.
After that I sat at a cozy coffee shop to wait for the next part of my tour and got to sit and watch the rain for a bit.
The second part of the tour was seeing the actual palace. The extravagance was incredible, and again I was transfixed by the ceilings!! I have only watched a little bit of The Crown but I definitely recognized some of the rooms and wonder if they actually filmed in the palace, if so that must have been an undertaking.
The third part of the tour was seeing the royal stables where they keep horses, carriages and cars. After that I had dinner before heading back to my hotel. Again, LOTS of walking! All in all another great day in LONDON.
