Este mes regreso a la Ópera de París para dirigir Tristán e Isolda. Las óperas de Wagner tienen una amplitud casi abrumadora, un sonido global que nos empuja hasta nuestros límites físicos y emocionales. Pero si bien puede ser poderosa, moderna y audaz, esta música puede también expresar ternura y amor a la vez. Cada nota contiene multitudes, y el desafío es hallar ese equilibrio entre lo épico y lo íntimo. Esto es tal vez aún más cierto en Tristán, la monumental historia de dos enamorados desdichados y su eterno anhelo el uno por el otro. Desde las primeras notas del “acorde de Tristán” y las armonías cambiantes del Preludio, hasta el desengaño condenado del Liebestod, esta es música que fluye como un río de los corazones latientes de dos seres y nos transporta hacia el infinito. -- This month I return to Paris Opera to conduct Tristan und Isolde. There is an almost overwhelming expansiveness to Wagner's operas, a sound world that pushes us to our physical and emotional limits. Yet, while this music can be powerful, modern and daring, it can also be loving and tender at the same time. There are multitudes contained in each note, and the challenge comes in finding that balance between the epic and the intimate. This is perhaps most true of Tristan, the towering story of two star-crossed lovers, and their endless yearning for one another. From the first notes of the "Tristan chord" and the ever-shifting harmonics of the Prelude, through to the doomed heartbreak of the Liebestod, this is music that flows like a river from the pulsing hearts of these two people, and carries us on a journey toward the infinite. 📸: Elisa Haberer / OnP @operadeparis
