very excited to share that my first feature film SMADAR is having its north america premier at @doxafestival in Vancouver TONIGHT!! "Smadar" is a close-up portrait to the life on the periphery, and love letter to my home town, Kiryat Ata. The film claustrophobically follows a week in the life of a local celebrity, an eccentric seamstress and an unconventional character- who allows for the first time an intimate and honest glimpse into the life of the woman everyone knows but might not truly understand how to empathize with. In this landscape, Smadar reveals her life through complex relationships, intense hatred of men and bitter conclusions about love. We watch her hoarding home grow with piles of orders from clients, rushing to get their holiday clothes altered in time for the Seder night. Despite her shields of homemade extravagant outfits and stark humor, her resilience shines through. Symbolically and keeping with the spirit of passover, Smadar herself is in a constant search for redemption and freedom.
