Exam Results Day 🎓
A day I feel a little pull back to the day I was at Grammar School & had not gained the grades my school wanted to allow me to move into year 13. My bozzo head of sixth form said “maybe you should focus on your hairdressing” (creep).
In that year I had loads of crap happening at home and I was having a really hard time as a teenage girl. I suddenly felt an immense pressure to go to uni & prove everyone wrong. So, I enrolled at another 6th form, repeated the year and eventually went on to study languages and business at uni. That same head of 6th became a headmaster at a school in the city I went to uni in & randomly saw me walking to lectures one day. I truly thought I had given him a 🖕🏽
I loved my uni experience. I made life long friends, found out what true independence was and got to live abroad. Fulfilling.
Except... I already had a talent, a passion and I was genuinely really good at it. I let everyone else’s expectations and fears about making it in an industry that they didn’t understand cloud my own judgement and gut instinct.
Well, Mr Mosely ... thank you. Thank you for making me tough, determined and Unafraid to challenge myself. There’s a strong argument that my time and uni and career in marketing has helped in my current career but you could also argue that I lost time and was never given encouragement to do what I loved doing.
Essentially, your grades are only defining for the people awarding them. They are not reflective of who you really are. If you have a passion (and I’m not just talking hair here) then please explore and nurture it. Find ways to make a living from it. And whatever your grades were just remember they are simply that; a grade. Nothing more than a letter/number.
Go smash the đź’© out of life x
