It’s still used by a few up til now. It is used to help babies swing lightly and comfortably til they fall asleep. And once they are sound asleep, they are transferred to their cribs or sleeping mat like a “banig”, a traditional handwoven sleeping mat. I cherish my culture and try to keep it alive by sharing this here. This isn’t the American way of safe sleep and I am well aware of that. The hook that my husband installed can withstand 300lbs of weight and it is attach to the beam of the ceiling. (He even added a support beam). And Kalea doesn’t sleep here at night time. She sleeps here for naps and only when I am in the room with her. That’s why when I saw this at fb marketplace, I took a chance and bought it.
