I lost my mother to breast cancer last June. She was as strong as anyone could possibly be and was the loving foundation of our family through and through. She kept our dysfunctional unit functioning and never gave up on her children through the worst. She’s the reason I am who I am and the reason I make music. Her support in opening up her home to constant recording was the reason a lot of music in Chicago was made— even if it drove her crazy half the time. The last time I saw her, she hugged me tight and long with tears in her eyes at the airport as I was leaving Chicago for LA. Im so happy that I can hold onto that simple moment with her. I can still feel that hug. As hard as it is for me to be away from Chicago right now, I know how much she loved California, and I know she’s with me here enjoying the nature and sun. Today’s her birthday, and it’s the first without her. Happy Birthday mom. We miss you every day.
