Queen Elizabeth II has died at the age of 96, Buckingham Palace has confirmed. Her Majesty passed away peacefully at Balmoral, her beloved Scottish estate. Born in April 1926, Elizabeth was the elder daughter of Prince Albert, Duke of York, later George VI, and his wife, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Elizabeth became Queen in 1952 at the age of 25 following the death of her father, and her coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on June 2, 1953.
