Polarity can cause significant strain & tension internally, as well as externally. In families, this can look like 2 or more members seemingly moving farther away in opposite directions in an attempt to “balance” out the opposing person. The efforts often result in greater distance instead of greater integration. Internally, this can look like arguing with yourself, struggling to come to a decision & feeling in conflict with your own desires. If you feel stuck in your relationships or stuck in your own experience, polarization is an important theme to investigate. My work has a steady theme of considering polarization’s role in our tension & conflict. What is the useful information we can glean from this dynamic? Where is it unhelpful? What are better strategies that ultimately achieve our goal of cohesion more successfully? What does it really take to feel integrated with someone who thinks differently than me, while still maintaining my values? If you find yourself resonating with this kind of work, reach out! Let’s look at it together & take steps towards integration.
