There’s this coffee shop I used to go to in Savannah. One day as I was there, I saw a man with a camera come in: his name is Charles, and he has an incredible story.
Shortly after he was born in Brooklyn, his mother passed away when he was only two years old. He then moved to Savannah, & was raised in a small, predominantly African-American village called Pin Point, known for its fishing and its architecture. The people in this area were in charge of designing & building the Tybee Island Pier, along with many other landmarks in Savannah. At the end of his teenage years, he joined the Navy as one of two black men on the entire ship. One of the last ports he was stationed at was off the coast of New York. He ended up moving back to his hometown, Brooklyn, met his wife & opened up an antique shop.
After living in the city for years, he and his wife drove down the east coast & fell in love with Savannah. For years now, Charles has been playing chess in Brooklyn & Savannah. Chess was also what connected us at first when he taught me the strategies of the game & how to look at life from a different perspective.
Chess requires patience, and often, time can get away from you.
That’s why I thought Charles would be a great model for @interlokit , a interchangeable watch company.
