Yesterday, I was honored to deliver remarks at the homegoing services of a mother of our community, and an aunt to me: Mrs. Thelma Burns.
Mrs. Burns lived a full and righteous life, one guided by her faith in God, in humanity, in justice, true justice for every woman, man, and child, that no one would be denied their right to an excellent
education, to quality healthcare, to social services when in need because of their race or zip code, not if she had anything to do with it, not on her watch.
Her legacy is cemented in the thousands of lives made better by her. She was a nurse, a healer in every way. I believed so deeply in her healing powers that I was certain she would outlive us all.
My deepest condolences to the Burns family and all whom were blessed to love Mrs. Burns and to be loved by her.
ā...And when great souls die. After a period peace blooms. Slowly
and always irregularly. Spaces fill with a kind of soothing electric
vibration. Our senses. Restored. Never. To be the same. Whisper
to us. They existed. They existed. We can be. Be and be. Better.
For they existed.ā
