This one’s for the birds. 🐦
For #NationalBirdDay take a moment to appreciate Ed Ruscha’s “Angry Because It's Plaster, Not Milk.” In his painting a red-and-yellow bird looks down on what appears to be a distant glass of milk, lying on its side—but unspilled.
Ruscha was fascinated by Dada and Surrealism, often specifically the work of René Magritte. “I was inspired by this sort of lunatic group of people who made art that ran against prevailing ideas,” said Ruscha. “Their nonsense was synonymous with seriousness, and I’ve always been dead serious about being nonsensical.”
