Pride Month is over, but our work continues. Prior to June 1, Rainbow Railroad received 4,557 requests for help in 2022. We anticipate receiving more than 10,000 requests for help by the end of this year. Approximately 90% of those will be received outside the month of June. Over the last 12 months, we have responded to crisis situations in places like Afghanistan and Ukraine, where LGBTQI+ lives remain at risk. Our work happens 365 days a year, even when the rainbows are not as obvious. The tragic shooting on the eve of Oslo Pride, and violent crackdowns on Pride celebrations are reminders that LGBTQI+ people around the world continue to face persecution and violence simply for being who they are. A recent wave of anti-LGBTQI+ legislation across the United States is an indication that, even in places that feel safer for our community, our rights are still vulnerable.
