*UPDATE Friday Eve: Due to heavy picking volume today, unfortunately peaches are sold out for this weekend but more varieties coming next week* Let's savor the last of summer this long holiday weekend! There are apples AND peaches for picking plus an amazing lineup of food vendors, live music and maker popups. The following apple varieties are available for picking: 🍎 Jonamac: Introduced in 1944 at the NYS Agricultural Experiment Station. A cross between Jonathan and McIntosh. Acidic and slightly tart right now, Jonamac becomes increasingly sweeter with time. This variety is located up the main orchard hill. 🍎 Fulford Gala: This is a solid blushed strain of Gala that was noticed in New Zealand by W. Fulford in 1983. Most Gala strains are identified by their stripes, while Fulford Gala has a pretty bold and solid blush. This very sweet variety, great for dessert making, is located next to the strawberries. We will have some limited quantities of pre-picked Ginger Gold in the farm stand on Thursday, as well as pre-picked Fulford Gala. After a brief hiatus, peaches return with a bang! Beginning Friday at 9am, we will have the following peach varieties available for pick-your-own. 🍑 Cresthaven: Large late season freestone. Golden colored fruit with red around the pit. Nearly fuzzless. Resists browning. 🍑 Messina: late season yellow peach with a red blush. Minimal fuzz. Sweet but firm and versatile. In our experience, late season peaches tend to be firmer than the mid-season quintessential juicy powerhouses we had a couple of weeks ago. Cresthaven and Messina do soften up a bit and are excellent candidates for sitting out on the counter for a couple of days. Their firmness makes these premium canning and freezing peaches! We will be spot picking the tops to have some pre-picked peaches available in the farm stand. Depending on picking volume on Friday, there may or may not be peach picking for the remainder of the weekend. We will keep a close eye on supply and issue updates.
