Mooncakes 🥮 are pastries timed to the Mid-Autumn Festival, a holiday that celebrates the start of the harvest season. It’s a holiday for worshipping the moon for a bountiful harvest, giving thanks and gathering with family. Traditionally, mooncakes are filled with the best ingredients of a particular region, like lotus seed and salted egg yolks in Guangdong, China (where my family is from).
