Our girl. This morning. If you’ve been following me here for a long time you may remember when this gorgeous lady came home to us some 9 years ago. Rhys, my ex-husband, rescued her a few streets over. She had been left behind at a home where the family had moved away, and until then had her chained to a tree - basically used as a prop aka “guard dog” in their yard. Through and through, after all these years (and all our many pets), everyone always says “Scarlett is my favorite.” There is not a single soul, dog person or not, who hasn’t fallen in love with her beautiful, graceful, easy spirit. Yeah, she’s a little anxious (she’s a rescue dog after all) and she definitely suffers from the occasional separation anxiety, but there’s something so sophisticated about her. So regal about her. Why we call her our Queen. After noticing some recent changes in her - lots of bathroom accidents inside the house, some awful smells coming from her body, we took her in for some tests. Today we learned that she has stage three kidney disease. Her kidneys are failing her and everything is starting to collapse. It’s heartbreaking to know she’s suffering and uncomfortable and was silently fighting this unbeknownst to us. She can’t seem to get enough water and there’s an occasional whimpering from her off and on throughout the day. We are going back for an abdominal ultrasound later this week so I’ll tell you more as we know it. But yes, this is the news you never want to get. Our lady is in her final act. I know people lose their pets every day but it doesn’t make it any easier. I’m just so grateful we get to smother her with endless love for the next weeks or months (as many as six I’m told)... until she needs to fly away. She looks happy in this picture from this morning. I washed her doggy bed. I think she liked it. 🏡🐾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I love you guys. Thank you for the DM’s. 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
