How in the heck did I get here!? That was the thought stuck in my mind while perched upon a ridge, witnessing the biggest throw down in snowboarding happen. Epic heli lines across the valley, the biggest backcountry jumps in pretty rowdy avalanche terrain just below me. All I knew coming into this project was to “supervise the build of a couple jumps.” I had no idea how incredible this project would turn out to be. After my first couple days with the crew and seeing the passion, soul, and dedication towards it, I knew I had to stick it through. I then asked to stay on for the entire thing and be the Project Safety Coordinator. It quickly turned out to be the most rewarding experience I’ve had in my career, and some of the biggest highlights of snowboarding that I’ll never forget. From no snow to too much. Cat track side missions. Countless countdowns. A left and a right and it’s open. Coffee breaks and potato salads. Bombs, mechanicals and mechanics. Dirt mobiling with no gas and down days at Ruby hills. It was such a pleasure to share this experience with the crew. So very grateful and I express my thanks to Tor and Celia for sharing their vision and working so hard to make it happen. The riders that kept me on my toes every moment and smiling for months straight. The media crew for keeping the vibes high and amazing radio banter. My mentors for taking a chance on me, educating and trusting me to keep everyone safe. Bossman for creating this snowboarding paradise a possibility and bringing me into the team. All of you rock. I’m devastated that I won’t be able to attend the premiere in person as I’ll be continuing my training in the CAA. But this missed opportunity is giving me even more fuel to keep pursuing the guiding path, so that on the next project we do, I get to be that guy landing the helicopter. To all those that are not stuck in the middle of no where for the next 10 days. Go see Return. It’s going to blow your mind. Ah fer sure buds. Have fun tomorrow legends!!
