Incredible Clianthus magnificus at Kew today. I saw it today walking to lunch and I went down a rabbit hole researching it all evening. C. magnificus is in the Fabaceae, the legume family and if you look closely it does have those pea-bean type flowers. It's native to New Zealand, called kōwhai ngutu-kākā in Māori. The name refers to its similarity to the beak of the kaka parrot. This gorgeous species is critically endangered in the wild #botany #fyp #botanist #botanista #plants
