Lifeguarding is a family affair for Brett, his mother Rebecca and his grandmother Margie. They all became Red Cross certified lifeguards at some point in their life. Starting with Margie in 1979, who taught swimming and lifeguarding skills until she retired in 2003. Margie certified her daughter Rebecca in 1992 and later, Rebecca certified Brett when he was 15. Now Brett can say his training has paid off after he saved someone’s life at the Menlo Aquatics Center in Perkasie, PA. Brett was on duty when he noticed someone unresponsive in the pool. He immediately activated the Emergency Action Plan and jumped in to keep the person’s head above water while other team members retrieved the backboard. Together, his team and off-duty responders worked quickly to help remove the person from the water, call 911, start CPR and retrieve the AED in one single motion. After providing a shock from the AED, the person showed signs of life and EMS arrived to further assist them. Because of Brett’s swift and heroic actions, we recognized him with a Red Cross Lifesaving Award. Way to go, Brett! 👏🏽👏🏻👏🏿👏🏾 #RedCross #CPRSavesLives #AED #Lifeguard
