When my dear friend @coxyphotos, (i have known her for a lifetime already) met and were tea roomies in Mexico city this past spring, I only knew she was an amazing clown witch and played a fast and loose, funky Wise Man with a potent tongue. as we began to build trust, we confided in one another things that were going on in our lives, how we felt and why we felt that way. the juicy stuff you're embarrassed to speak out loud. . And when I saw the work that she did, I was in awe of the incredible way she was able to draw out a light, a palpable feeling of self-acceptance, basic harmonious truth, and self-existing beauty out from her stripped down subjects. i admired how she was able to shoot nudes in such a beautiful way and NOT make it about sex. (although they are sexy!) i thought all the women were so beautiful. but she told me that they don't always feel that way about themselves. . she had never done a shoot like this with a man before, so it was a first for both of us. i was initially excited, but something else inside of me was very nervous. fear crept in. not afraid of her seeing me as i am, but of being unable to hide from.. myself. . my fear came from my self image, and not from my TRUE SELF. That pesky ego is an image that I have created, a hologram. It creates tightness in my mind and body when it blocks my spirit, which I felt before the shoot and as it began. But as I took the courageous step to trust gentle Carrie with something so intimate--my pure, unadorned self, she showed me so much love and care in return. She witnessed me as I am, capturing my curious and fearless truth in her magical fairy bottle. . the photos are true and honest.. and the experience has made me proud of myself. like.. i believe i am beautiful. By transforming my shame, self consciousness, and fear into love, she opened a door in my heart to enable me to see a glimpse of my own beauty, my own truth, or as she puts it "like how I see you".
