Keeping your hands behind your back or sitting on them to prevent unwanted intervention is a tip I picked up from learning about Maria Montessori’s methods over the years. For me, it really helps because it takes away the temptation to interject.
Body language is important. Body language conveys unspoken feelings through which I can demonstrate trust or fear. I want my child to know that I trust them to trust their own body.
It’s not always easy to tuck my hands away. It’s not always easy to feel calm when they are scaling heights. This visual reminder is important in helping me in doing both!
What advice/questions do you have about risky play? Do you find yourself doing this too?
