Oh what a night. I was honored to be invited to the @whitehouse Hanukkah party last night. I took the advice of my friend @dws and as my plus one took the best date ever, my sunshine the light of my life my 7 years old son Ari. Even as young as he is, Ari is pretty politically aware and was extremely excited when I told him we’re going to a party at the White House. He told his friends and his teachers, we got him a new suite (he asked for a bowtie!) and for weeks we’ve practiced a firm handshake, a look in the eye and a proper self-introduction. We got there early and ran into my new BFF of only one phone call ago @mandanadayani and her stunning, whip smart 8 years old daughter Andy. We headed upstairs, teamed up with my all time fangirl crush ambassador Deborah Lipstadt and her grandson Theo, and in quite a shameless move, pushed the kids to be at the front row. Seeing the President of the United States this close calls for shameless measures, and they are all about three feet tall so wouldn’t hide anyone’s view. (Thank you @daroff for letting them through!) the event started with a moving speech by TX Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker who saved his congregation at the antisemitic attacks on his Colleyville synagogue and a beautiful candle lighting by Holocaust survivors and descendants of Rabbi Joshua Heschel. We sang together and took the moment in. And then @potus took the mic. When the President and @flotus first came on stage I saw him clock the kids and give them a little wave. But I nearly fell off my feet when he simply... called them on stage. Ari, Andy and Theo got to sit on stage next to the President of the United States while he was firmly committing to fighting antisemitism. While he was saying “silence is complicity”. While committing to never be silence, while promising America would never be silence. I was born in Israel. @mandanadayani was born in Iran. Our children got to sit on stage and hear this commitment from the President up close. God bless America. Also, practice makes perfect. After weeks of handshakes, President Joe Biden shook Ari’s hand and said “great handshake”. I’m full of love and gratitude. Happy holidays ❤️✡️🕎
