Happy news! ✨ I'm over the moon to be joining the judging panel for Penguin's #LitInColour Creative Student Prize. Lit in Colour was created by @penguinukbooks and @runnymedetrust with the aim of finding innovative and practical ways to give schools the support and tools they need to introduce more books by people of colour into the classroom, for all ages. This year, the Creative Student Prize is prompting young people to explore their relationship with books and reading by asking the question: what place do books have in your world? If you’re aged 14-18 and live in the UK or Republic of Ireland, we want to hear from you - you can respond to this question by submitting an essay, short story, poetry, video or TikTok, illustration, photograph or artwork. Myself, @simran and more incredible names (to be announced) will have the pleasure of judging your entries! The winner will bag a MacBook Air, complete with a year-long subscription to Adobe suite. Runners up will receive Beats by Dreheadphones, and a Penguin audiobook package. Ten finalists will have their responses published on the Lit in Colour website. As someone who has been a book lover from as soon as I could pick one up (so much so that my local librarian used to make me answer questions about the books I'd taken out cos she didn't believe I could read them so quickly - West Wickham librarians were ops), I could not be more overjoyed to be a part of this. Books are literally my life - I spend my days working on creating books, finding and developing authors, concepts and ideas, my evenings and weekends contributing to children's history books and other times figuring out how to make this very mad industry a happier, healthier and more impactful place to exist in.
