Returning from Charleston so grateful for the 3.5 weeks spent with @spoletofestivalusa! (Admittedly also grateful to be returning home where the humidity isn’t 80%+ every day 🥵) I had a wonderful time playing Crobyle in Massenet’s Thaïs - such a fun role that brings levity to an often intense and emotional opera.
It has been a long time since I’ve been in a choir, and singing with the festival chorus for Kodály’s Missa Brevis and Bach’s Mass in B Minor were a great return to choral singing for me. I think every singer with their sights set on opera or concert work should be able to also sing well in a choir - the ability to blend with others and work as a unit are transferable skills to all kinds of music-making. Not to mention the many psychological benefits of singing in a choir! And now I think I could sing the Sop II line of the Bach in my sleep…
Swipe to see a photo of Dr. Joe Miller and I circa 2013!! It was a true joy and full circle moment to work with him again - really a priceless experience. Working with Dr. Miller in high school pushed me towards a career in music and changed the trajectory of my life. Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it!
