Pretty in pink...The first large-scale test moulding from one of my beach plaster cast dead jellyfish negative moulds into a positive silicone mould - which I’ll eventually turn into a negative silicone mould. It’s a right mould making faff.... But worth it. At the mouth of the glacial formed Mawddach estuary in Wales sits a costal landscape set betwixt a mythical lost kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod and the soon to be decommissioned seaside resort of Fairebourne - A place of my childhood holidays, and over the years I’ve noticed an increased abundance of big jellyfish being washed up on the shore. This summer I spent some time beach plaster casting a few of the large dead jellyfish washed up on the shore. Out of their natural marine habitat and seen up close slumped on land, jellyfish are amazingly alien in form, and a beautifully viscous material to make moulds from. The aim with this work is to cast them into a large scale series of relief sculptures. #jellyfish #beachcasting #plastercasting #jellymould #reliefsculpture #sculpture #concretesculpture #plastercast #jesmonite #concrete #Mawddachestuary #CantrerGwaelod #Fairebourne #contemporaryart #reliefcast #sandcast #mouldmaking #art #artist #robintarbet
