My first-ever Hay Festival! What a special experience being on stage twice - in the morning with the incredible debut novelist @melissafuwriter who advised budding writers to ‘touch the story every day’, then in the afternoon to talk all things @eastsidevoices with the wonderful @tash.aw . I found myself revisiting his books before the weekend, marvelling at his ability to convey complex ideas about society with such wit, precision and panache. A theme that recurred was the inter-generational silence that affects our own narratives: the silence that hides the pain and trauma, but also masks the journeys that got us here and the cultural richness of our heritage. Here’s to breaking down that wall of silence and uplifting our stories... ♥️
