"What Was Lost" is a series of photographs and an animation of the once neon filled Tak Hing Street. The street was once cascading with neon signs and colour and was a true representation of Hong Kong imagery and its electric night atmosphere. This street has now lost all of it's zest with all of the signs and colour having been stripped away and is a very sad loss. What was once a beautifully coloured and mesmerizing arrangement is now washed out, bland and colourless - devoid of feeling. I would often come to this street whenever I was in the Jordan area, and would without fail be able to take pictures of people gazing up in wonder at the signs and reveling in their unique beauty. It is very sad, what was lost.
"A collaborative piece with animation by Alex Knight based on a photograph taken in April 2019, towards the end of these neon signs lives. This street was like a dream and I believe it was something that everyone who came here felt. It had that true iconic Hong Kong feel, and whenever I would venture down this street I would often find others appreciating its beauty just as much as I would. People would stop and stare, taking a moment to get lost in the colour and atmosphere. It reminded me that it is okay to dream a little". @stfeyes
