I reached out to King Dude after hearing his recent release, "Songs of the 1940s - Part Two" to see if he might be interested in letting me remix one of his songs off of the project, "Sixteen Tons." I thought his take on it was unique and pretty dark and so I wanted to keep that vibe but bring it into my world. First off, King Dude was amazing to work with. Not only did he provide his vocal stems but also all of the original instrument stems and he did the cover art for the single. Thanks again, Dude. 🙏🏼 Even though I had them, I wasn't going to use his instrument stems. A few keys were used as a placeholder during the bridge but after Mr. Wimbish played off of the original keys, I decided to keep it since it just made sense. Again, shout out to the legend, Mr. Wimbish who brought the remix to life with his bass. It's an incredible honor to be able to work with an icon. 🙏🏼 The missing piece was the chorus which needed guitars and so I reached out to Daniel, who I need to work with more, to see what he could come up with and he nailed it. I wanted something dark but not too heavy to play nicely with the vocals, the bass, the drums, the textures, the song as a whole. Another great person to work with and a super shredder, go check out Age of Ruin to really appreciate his skills. 🙏🏼 Shout out to @mikexdna (who should probably be my manager) who connected me with Daniel.
