Temperatures are dipping, apples abound, and fall flowers and pumpkins are gracing our doorsteps! Shizuka and Empire varieties join the PYO apple roster this week. 🍎 Honeycrisp - This week, we cleaned the ground beneath the Honeycrisp and left ~25 trees with limited apples. Visit today/Thursday to get the last of them for PYO! However, we will have plenty of pre-picked available at the Farmstand this weekend. 🍎 Early Fuji - This variety is limited in quantity, so come early as they won't last the weekend. 🍎 Empire - Lester Anderson began developing this apple in the 1940s at Cornell. Empire was officially released in 1966. Creamy white flesh with both a sweet and tart flavor. Juicy and crisp. Good for fresh eating, salads, baking, and sauces. 🍏 Shizuka- A cross between Golden Delicious and Indo, this modern Japanese apple is light green turning slightly yellowish with a crisp and light texture. A sibling of Mutsu. Very sweet, no noticeable acidity. 🍎 Jonamac - Introduced in 1944 at the NYS Ag Experiment Station. A cross between Jonathan and McIntosh. This variety is SO on point right now, ideally ripe and sweet! 🍎 Pioneer McIntosh - This strain of Mc is very similar to the original Mc which is believed to be a seedling of the once prized Snow/Fameuse variety discovered in Ontario Canada in 1811. Beautiful and ususual half green/half dark-red coloring and thick skin gives way to a vinous, tart yet savory flavor. 🎃 Pumpkins return this weekend! While we don't grow pumpkins (we focus our energy on growing the best tree fruit!), we source local pumpkins in a variety of shapes and sizes. You can choose from our display at the Farmstand or select from the pumpkin meadow, for a Pick-Your-Own experience. 🍩 Our Donut Shack is open every Sat & Sun 10am-4pm (or until sold out) through Oct! This year our donut program is led by Chef Joyan Stroh @joyanstroh who also features her specialty treats, ex Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies.
