A triple image sonification of the M87 galaxy’s impressive jet! The jet is powered by the same supermassive black hole that was famously imaged in 2018. From bottom to top, it is seen in radio (ALMA), optical (Hubble), and x-ray (Chandra). We mapped the vertical position to musical pitch across all 3 so each layer is in a separate frequency range. Following their relative light frequencies, radio is the low range, optical is medium, and x-ray is the highest. Each layer also has a different timbre. Sonification credit: NASA/CXC/SAO/K.
