IS YOUR DOG MORE WOLF LIKE, MASTIFF (LIKE), HUNTER OR HERDER? - Dogs are derived from wolves, but the dosing of different genes can be used to cluster them into different categories that map to different behavioral traits and dependence on scent vs sight, etc. (and other traits too). I discussed this recently with @joerogan on the @joeroganexperience No. 2195 (on @spotifypodcasts @youtube & @applepodcasts ). - Dog size can be impacted by the dosing of particular genes such as IGF1 to arrive at the much larger size of say, the Great Dane relative to the much smaller Chihuahua. You don’t see many Dane sized Chihuahuas (but there are mini and even “teacup” smaller breeds e.g., mini pinchers). - To be clear, sometimes these breed differences are related to the number of copies of a given gene and other times it is related to their downstream pathways. And yes, experience (nurture) matters too. The point here is that genetic clustering can reveal some interesting similarities among breeds that we don’t often link together based on our typical understanding of them. - You may have to finger zoom in to see your breed of interest and not every breed is listed, but it’s fun to see where your favorite dog breed resides on this genetic clustering. - If you have any questions or comments, please put those in the comments section below this post. If you have a dog, I would be curious to know what its dominant behavioral traits are. - @hubermanlab @stanford.med @stanford - #neuroscience #science #ciencia #neurociencia #dog #wolf #mastiff #wolves #igf1 #growth #mini
